Watering the Seed Sown in 2021

Background

In 2021, the Kolibri seed was sown in 52 schools across the Intibucá Department located on the border of Honduras with El Salvador. For the first time in their story, kids had the opportunity of having a tablet in their home. It was our great honor being the ladder to fulfill this dream! Teachers, parents, and students were excited about getting deep into this new learning chapter.

Due to the prohibitions of gathering together due to COVID-19, teachers were trained virtually. As it seen normal, not everyone learns at the same rhythm. Some of the teachers got it on the first try, and others needed more virtual help, but there was a last group who still had some lagoon of doubts we should have had to solve. Our main goal was to equip teachers as much as possible to get the desirable results in the platform usage, but our schedule was too packed for it.

Certified Kolibri trainers

However, we are very blessed to have two teachers who are certified Kolibri trainers who were willing to help us do complete this process. They are Professor Marbyn Zúniga, a math teacher who has been using the platform for four years, and has done other pieces of training in the past, obtaining excellent results. Also, Professor Gustavo Bautista. His experience seems short in terms of time (6 months, to be specific), but it is wide in terms of knowledge. What has made it possible? His dedication and perseverance! From the time he started, he discovered the marvelous world of content included in the platform. Whenever we asked him about his statement to motivate others, his response was, ”Kolibri has a delicious flavor we must scuba dive to find it, and I have found it.” His words were aligned with the commitment, dedication, and perseverance teachers must have to become experts on the use of the platform.

Overcoming the obstacles

After reviewing the teacher’s surveys, we discovered a group of 47 teachers who requested in-person training. We understand its effectiveness but did not want to interrupt classes. Therefore, we planned to have the training session on a Saturday. To incentive, we offered to pay for their transportation and food. It happened on July 30th, 2022. Professors Marbyn and Gustavo were willing to donate part of their time to reinforce these teachers’ knowledge. The training curriculum used was funded in part thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of State. Additionally, we thank the Municipality of Intibucá for supporting this event by allowing us to use their logistic equipment.

After this journey, teachers were left equipped enough to make their Kolibri seed flourish.

We clap the teachers’ effort and their commitment to providing quality education to this much-needed generation.
