We have just come back from an unforgettable week in Mexico. Our whole team is overwhelmed by the emotional and exciting competition. Honduras played 8 games before making it to the semi-finals on Saturday. In a sudden-death match we lost our first semi-final game due to unfortunate robot failures on our alliance teams. We ended up in 16th place overall in a competition of 193 teams. To quote our faithful mentors Alan and Wendy who stuck with us and supported us the whole time in Mexico, ‘Honduras didn’t make any errors, we performed beautifully.’ It is true. Our robot, Pablo, shined whenever it went onto the field of play. As a coordinator, I was so proud of our students in and out of the arena. They left their shy-selves in Honduras and talked, laughed and hugged other students from all around the world. All week, they eagerly practiced English phrases to make small conversations. When the judges came around the arena, all 5 students professionally and honestly told their stories and described the robot in detail. Needless to say, they impressed everyone. I think their eyes were opened up, at least just a little, to this great world we live in and to the opportunities they can have if they shoot for their dreams and work hard. I’m so thankful for this opportunity to be a part of FIRST Global, they are changing lives around the whole world, literally.

Regresamos esta semana de una semana inolvidable en México. Todo nuestro equipo es afectado por la competencia emocional y emocionante. Honduras jugó 8 partidos antes de qualificar para los semi-finales el Sabado. En el último partido de muerte súbita, perdimos el primer partido de los semi-finales debido a fallos desafortunados en los robots de los otros equipos en nuestra alianza. Terminamos en 16 lugar en una competencia de 193 equipos. Como dijo nuestros mentores fieles Alan y Wendy quienes nos acompañaron toda la competencia, ‘Honduras no tenia errores. Performamos absolutamente bonito.’ Es cierto. Nuestro robot, Pablo brilló cada vez que fue a la cancha. Como coordinadora, yo estaba tan orgullosa de nuestros estudiantes dentro y fuerda de la cancha. Ellos dejaron sus mismos que son tímidos en Honduras y hablaron, se reían, y abrazaron con estudiantes de todo el mundo. Toda la semana practicaron frases en íngles para tener conversaciones pequeños con otros. Cuando llegaron los jueces en la arena, cada uno de los 5 estudiantes en maneras profesionales y honestos contaron sus historias y describieron el robot con mucho detalles. No hace falta decir que ellos dejaron impresiones increíbles con todos. Creo que sus ojos abrieron por lo menos un poquito, a este gran mundo en que vivimos y a los oportunidades que puedan tener si siguen sus sueños y trabajan duros. Estoy demasiado agradecida por esta oportunidad ser parte de FIRST Global, ellos están cambiando vidas en todo el mundo, literalmente.
