Students in their final year in the information technology career track in the Camasca High School, Instituto Santo Tomás de Aquino, are shown above cleaning and repairing computers in a small rural school in Camasca. As part of their hands-on training and internships, they serve the surrounding schools by providing this service. The computers are very old and sometimes can’t be revived.
Our repair lab in the Camasca High School is almost ready to put to use. This lab will replace the need to GO to these schools, and all of the repair will be done in an organized, supervised, and efficient way within the high school. This will also allow students to have access to hands-on learning in the classroom.
Profe Henglyns, the parents, and the mayor have worked hard to raise funds to refurbish a storage room in the high school for use as the lab. They needed new lighting, tables and chairs, roof repair so water doesn’t enter, electricity, and ventilation. Shoulder to Shoulder is providing all of the tools and some spare parts to allow the lab to function. These tools are few and far between here.
In the next 2 weeks, the lab should be finished and ready to use. Thanks to the mayor, Ignacio Bautista, for his generous support that this lab come to fruition for the benefit of all of Camasca. One day this model could be brought to other municipalities within Intibucá with the support of the department of education.

Estudiantes en su último año de su bachillerato de Informática en el colegio de Camasca, Instituto Santo Tomás de Aquino, se ve en los fotos de arriba limpiando y reparando computadores en una escuela pequeña y rural en una aldea de Camasca. Parte de su pasantía y su entrenemiento es servir los centros alrededor Camasca con estes servicios. Las computadoras son muy viejos ya y a veces ni es posible resucitarlas.
Nuestro laboratorio de reparación dentro del colegio en Camasca casí está listo para uso. Este laboratorio reemplezará la necesidad de IR a los centros, y toda la reparación se va a completar en una manera organizada, supervisada e eficiente dentro del colegio. Este laboratorio permite que los estudiantes tienen acesso a una aprendizaje con los manos en la aula.
El profesor Henglyns, los padres de familia y el alcalde han trabajado para gestionar fondos para arreglar una bodega en el colegio para ser el espacio del laboratorio. Necesitaban luces nuevos, mesas y sillas, una reparación del techo para que no entre agua, electricidad y ventilación. Hombro a Hombro ya compró todas las herramientas y algunos repuestos para el funciónamiento del laboratorio.
En las próximas dos semanas, se va a terminar las reparaciónes del espacio y va a estar listo. Gracias a nuestro alcalde, Ignacio Bautista, para su apoyo generoso para que esté funcionando el laboratorio para el beneficio de todo Camasca. Un día este modelo se puede implementar en otros municipios en Intibucá con el apoyo de la dirección departamental.
