Alfredo Ely e Isaac, dos miembros del equipo robótica de FIRST Global 2018 están inspirando otros jóvenes por compartir su experiencia de robótica. Un día Alfredo me llamó a pedir un permiso de clase para viajar a todos los centros educativos en Concepción y hablarles de la robótica y de un club que Isaac y él querían empezar. Yo, soprendida de su determinación e idea dije claro que si! Tuvieron mucho éxito.
Visitamos a su club el fin de semana pasada para ver lo que han hecho y preguntar como podamos apoyarles. Reunen cada sábado desde las 8 de la mañana hasta la una de la tarde. Con ganas, este grupo de ~15-20 jóvenes de edades 9 a 16 años ya creó un grupo en Facebook, tiene un nombre ¨ROMA¨, ha hablado con un grupo de China para ser patrocinados por ellos, y está en contacto con la coordinadora del WRO (organización mundial de robótica) en Tegucigalpa quién les invitó a una competencia en Agosto. Tiene también unos padres quién estan dedicados apoyarles con varias cosas incluyendo la tranportación.
Planifican competir el próximo Agosto o Septiembre en la competencia nacional del FIRST Lego League. Estamos emocionadas a ver como sigue su historia y trabajo. Es un grupo de jóvenes que están cambiando la realidad de su pueble y actuando como un ejemplo que otros ojála sigan.

Alfredo Ely and Isaac, two members of the FIRST Global robotics team 2018, are inspiring other youth by sharing their robotics experience. One day Alfredo called me to ask to sign a permission for him and Isaac to travel to every school in Concepción and share with them ¨what is robotics¨ and invite them to partake in a club that they wanted to start up. I was pleasantly surprised by the call and idea and told him sure! They had lots of success.
We visited their club last weekend to see what they’ve done and hear their ideas for moving forward and talk about how we can support them. They meet every Saturday from 8am-1pm. Excited and motivated, this group of about 15-20 students from ages 9-16, shared that they’ve created a Facebook group, have chosen the name “ROMA”, have spoken with a Chinese organization to possibly sponsor them, and are in contact with the coordinator of WRO (world robotics organization) in Tegucigalpa who has invited them to a competition in August. They even have some parents who are dedicated to supporting them in transportation or other needs.
They plan to compete next year in August or September in the FIRST Lego League competition. We are excited to see how their story and work continues. This is a group of young students who may not know it, but are changing the reality of their town and acting as an example that others will follow.
