The arrival of the Vex project in 2021 at the STEM center marks a significant milestone. This innovative initiative, based on a generous donation from the United States, is set to revolutionize our educational robotics program. Its aim is to captivate the interest of more young minds and steer them towards the fascinating world of STEM.
In the same year, a group of young enthusiasts, eager to delve into the world of robotics, was formed. Their journey began with the exploration of the new kits, a venture that was both exciting and unprecedented. After months of relentless effort and training, a team of young technicians emerged, ready to lend their expertise to the teams that were yet to be formed.

In 2022, 4 teams from different municipalities from the border sector of Honduras were trained, with the initiative of creating new skills in young people such as programming, design, electronics, mechanics, physics and teamwork using the Vex V5 kit. During this year, the teams were intended to put the acquired knowledge into practice, and thus have the ability to teach more young people about robotics topics in their different communities.
In 2023, a competition was organized, pitting the existing teams against each other. Their task was to apply their block programming skills using the Vex VR online platform. The competition not only showcased their knowledge but also revealed their deep interest in robotics. We invite you to read more about this inspiring event in our previous blog.
This year, we successfully organized the first competition, which we fondly named the 'STEM SOCCER LEAGUE'.
This event was attended by
- Staff from the Headquarters of education, teachers, students, parents, and mayors from different municipalities.
This competition was a testament to the skills and enthusiasm of the students community in the STEM area. The competition aimed to not only provide a platform for these young talents to showcase their skills but also to expand knowledge in the area of robotics among young people and children in the border sector of Intibucá. The teams that participated were the following:
Intitute Dagoberto Napoleón Sorto, San Marcos de la sierra
Institute Santo Tomás de Aquino, Camasca
Institute, Superación Santa Lucía
Intitute Polivalente Monseñor Alonso Villanueva, San Antonio
The robots in action
It was a very close competition, students were very prepared to face the challenge. However, the rule was that there had to be a first place. The first place prize in this magnificent competition was awarded to:
️Monseñor Alonso Villanueva Polyvalent Institute of the municipality of San Antonio,
Every participant is a winner in our eyes. As a token of our appreciation for their hard work, everyone received a prize-a new Vex EXP kit. This will equip them to continue competing in future robotics events, and we look forward to seeing them there.
Happy first place winners
The skills and knowledge gained from this competition are invaluable, and we encourage our students to keep learning and growing in the field of robotics.
At Shoulder to Shoulder, we are unwavering in our mission to foster and showcase the exceptional STEM talents of our youth. We believe that by honing their skills and providing them with opportunities, we can prevent them from imigrating to countries looking for good jobs.
Thank you for helping us to make it possible!
