You Won’t Believe What’s Happening in Intibucá! 📖✨

Hey everyone! I just had to hop on here and share a story that has me absolutely buzzing with hope today. If you need a little good news in your feed, this is definitely it.

Out in Intibucá, Honduras, something incredibly beautiful is happening with the 2026 Reading Program. The Ministry of Education—specifically the amazing folks at the Departmental Directorate of Education of Intibucá—teamed up with Shoulder to Shoulder, and the results are amazing. Get this: there are already over 30,000 readers registered and actively diving into books!

Taking Tech Off the Grid

Picture this: you are in a gorgeous but remote area. Wi-Fi? Nope. A reliable power grid? Not really—even many of these resilient communities are running purely on solar panels. When families are understandably focused on the daily grind of putting food on the table, staying healthy, and keeping a roof over their heads, sitting down to read a novel isn't exactly the top priority.

But that’s where the Kolibri digital platform comes in. Thanks to Kolibri we bring channels packed with entire libraries of public domain books right to the kids' fingertips, and the best part is that it works completely offline and for free.

Come for the Prizes, Stay for the Magic

I’ll be completely honest: at first, a lot of the kids only signed up because Shoulder to Shoulder is offering some pretty cool prizes. And who can blame them? But here is the absolute best part of this whole thing: once they actually start reading, the prizes take a backseat.

They are getting totally hooked on the stories. They are discovering new worlds, building their confidence, learning empathy, and developing critical thinking skills. It’s no longer about winning a reward; it’s about the pure joy of learning and seeing the world through the eyes of great writers. It is literally rewriting their futures.

The true heroes behind this story

I have to give a massive shoutout to the teachers making this happen on the ground. Over 500 educators are leading this charge, and an overwhelming majority of them are women! In a region where opportunities for girls can sometimes be scarce, having these strong, brilliant female leaders stepping up and breaking paradigms is just so inspiring. They are showing the next generation of girls exactly what is possible.

The Ripple Effect

The momentum is just unreal right now. They’ve already got over 250 schools involved, reaching across all 17 municipalities in the department. It’s been such a massive, undeniable success that the neighboring department of Lempira is already knocking on the door. They are eager to replicate the same initiative and expand the program there in 2027. Word is spreading fast!

A Huge Thank You

We feel really grateful. None of this would be happening without the donors and partner organizations who believed in this wild idea to begin with. Every single contribution has put a story into a student's hands and helped them step onto a path toward a much brighter future.

It just goes to show—when you give kids the right tools and a little bit of opportunity, they will absolutely amaze you. Thank you so much for reading and letting me share this massive win with you all!
