In preschool education, each activity counts as a step in the development of the little ones, testing their different skills.
A new initiative is capturing the attention and enthusiasm of children and their teachers. The Lego building competition is more than just blocks. While small pieces attract boys and girls, this is how they build their entire projects of imagination, fostering skills that will last for the rest of their lives.
Imagining, creating, and competing
In 2023, thanks to the support of our good friends and donors, we received a beautiful donation of Legos that benefited +480 children in 16 educational centers. You can see the details here. We started the LEGO Construction competition project with this resource, and five kindergartens participated. This year, 2024, using the same resources, we had the participation of 10 educational centers from the department of Intibucá.
These teams had a period of 3 months for preparation. There was no stipulated challenge; the only thing was to use their imagination and create with Legos what they wanted. Here a short video showing their preparation
It was inspiring to see the children's excitement as they began building and their joy in the process. Their sense of urgency when they said, “We are running out of time,” in reality they only knew the numbers, but not the actual time they had left to finish. They coordinated with each other to complete their project, and their teamwork was a true inspiration. Here a couple of pictures of the proyects.
The LEGO competition was not just about small construction; it was an activity where the children actively developed problem-solving and teamwork skills. With their unique ideas and perspectives, each child played a significant role in constructing their projects. It was a truly engaging experience to watch the little engineers and architects of the future bring their ideas to life. We couldn't be prouder of their unique contributions, which truly showcased their creativity and individuality! Witnessing their collaborative spirit in action was a joyous experience.
“We are delighted to be able to participate; it is a very nice initiative by Shoulder to Shoulder, and the children are also having a lot of fun; it is something new and in the department of Intibucá.” Teacher Enna from san Marcos de sierra, Intibucá
Thank you very much! for helping us to give these opportunities and equip children with technical and creative knowledge; strengthening their social and emotional skills, which are crucial for their development and future success.
