Education is the seed of progress, and technology is its greatest ally.

The launch of Kolibri 2025 was a momentous event filled with emotions on March 14 in Honduras. We gathered for a transformative day organized by the Intibucá Departmental Directorate of Education and Shoulder to Shoulder, with the participation of representatives from the four municipal associations (AMFI, LENCA-ERAMANI, MAMUNI, and MANCURISJ) covering 19 municipalities across the departments of Intibucá and Lempira.
The attending mayors expressed their enthusiasm and commitment to continuing investment in education, expanding this incredible opportunity to improve teaching in their municipalities. The event introduced the latest configurations of Kolibri, designed to benefit students and teachers. Additionally, municipal education directors were recognized for their leadership in implementing Kolibri, and the essential work of the technical support personnel provided by each municipality was highlighted.

A Commitment to Education
The event underscored the dedication of Shoulder to Shoulder, the Ministry of Education, municipal associations, and local governments, all united with a single purpose: promoting student enrollment, retention, and advancement while enhancing educational quality in schools. Participants voiced their commitment to continued investment in education.
Teachers were especially enthusiastic, exchanging experiences and reaffirming their dedication to learning and integrating this educational technology. They also pledged to support other educators in their municipalities in adopting these innovations. Many highlighted the positive impact of Kolibri on academic performance and the teaching-learning dynamic.
Shoulder to Shoulder currently supports Kolibri implementation in 19 municipalities across four municipal associations (Mancomunidad) in the departments of Intibucá and Lempira, reaching 110 schools from preschool to high school levels.

Impact on Students
Teachers shared that many students have been inspired to continue their education. In some schools, enrollment had declined, and some students were reluctant to return to class due to limited job opportunities, which diminished their motivation. However, Kolibri's integration has reignited their desire to learn, not just the school curriculum but also digital literacy, opening a world of new possibilities for them. This progress moves us closer to ensuring students remain in the education system.
Another key aspect teachers value is Kolibri's versatility. It allows students struggling in certain subjects to reinforce their knowledge through effective feedback. The Kolibri data dashboard enables teachers to plan ahead, providing support for both students who need reinforcement and those advancing at a faster pace. Moreover, the introduction of early literacy has significantly enhanced learning processes.
Recognizing Teachers’ Efforts
Hermes, a multi-grade teacher, shared his testimony:
“I never thought I would receive this recognition. I teach in a school where I manage all six grades, and this program has been an incredible tool for achieving academic objectives, reducing printing costs, and improving teaching through interactive materials.”

The mayors congratulated municipal education directors for their leadership and, above all, teachers for their willingness to innovate and embrace new educational technologies.
The Kolibri Star School Recognition celebrates the exceptional efforts of schools across various mancomunidades in implementing Kolibri, a transformative educational platform. This recognition highlights the dedication and excellence of schools that have embraced this innovative tool to enhance learning opportunities and empower their communities. From Mancomunidad LENCA ERAMANI, MAMUNI, AMFI, and MANCURISJ, these schools stand as shining examples of how technology and commitment to education can create lasting impact. Here are the outstanding schools recognized in each mancomunidad.
Commitment from Local Authorities
Norman Sánchez, Mayor of Intibucá, stated:
“I encourage my fellow mayors to continue investing in education in our municipalities. We are grateful for organizations like Shoulder to Shoulder that prioritize education and provide innovative opportunities for our children and youth. Teachers, keep working, learning, and sharing knowledge with your colleagues. Our commitment as mayors is to bring more projects that support dedicated educators.”
Similarly, Javier Orellana, Deputy Director of Curriculum and Assessment, representing the Departmental Directorate of Education, thanked Shoulder to Shoulder and praised municipal directors and teachers for their dedication to education. He encouraged them to keep learning and applying their knowledge to ensure high-quality education.
Continuing to Transform Lives Through Education
At Shoulder to Shoulder, we reaffirm our commitment to education and celebrate the leadership of the Ministry of Education, as well as the efforts of municipal mayors in advancing educational development in their communities.
Each mayor has provided technical support staff to assist schools. Their effectiveness has been crucial to the project’s success, reflected in increased enrollment and improved student academic performance.
Additionally, we are launching the Inclusive Digital Education program, which will benefit many students with special needs. This initiative will provide technological resources and remote support, enabling students to continue their academic progress.

These results illuminate a path toward a promising future for education in Honduras. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all donors, teachers, authorities, and partners who make these initiatives possible. Every effort matters; every investment in education transforms lives. Let’s keep moving forward shoulder to shoulder, toward a horizon full of opportunities for our children and youth.
Education is the key to change. Let’s keep opening doors to the future.
