Virtual Robotics Challenge: Creativity, Logic, and STEM in Motion

Everything you can imagine can be automated with a little creativity.

Three years ago, an emotional competition was held with students of different ages willing to implement their ideas with the help of blocks of code that, when connected, respond to incredible ideas: from having robots draw figures with markers of different colors, to activating bumper sensors on robots in virtual courts.

This year, the competition has returned, and now with more complex challenges and new tools to use for their development. The students and mentors were previously selected by the director of their educational center to be part of this innovative experience.

To prepare, they attended a previous training; in this way, they learned about the blocks provided by the platform to be able to give life and movement to the virtual robot.

Happy and eager to be in the competition again, they returned to their schools to put into practice all the knowledge acquired. After a month of preparation, the students were ready to participate. Among the participating teams are:

  1. "Infinity Robotic" by the Héctor Orlando Gómez Cisneros Institute
  2. "Logical Revolution" of the Concepción de Guarajambala Polyvalent Institute
  3. "Micro Ingenios" of the CEB September 15

While they were preparing to program, at the STEM Center we were preparing to receive them for this new experience, full of a lot of learning, logic, and mathematics. This is how 12 students, along with their mentors, were present early to receive instructions before facing the challenges.

The competition consisted of a maximum of 10 challenges, lasting 15 minutes each. The students had the challenge of programming their virtual robots to meet the established objectives, earning a score of 10 per challenge. Those who obtained a higher score would be the winners of the first three places in the competition.

As expected, three students stood out for their speed and compliance with each of the instructions in the different challenges, achieving the highest scores.

The winners are:

  1. Diego Garay
  2. Lester Díaz
  3.  Kenny Villanueva

We ended the day by carrying out the long-awaited awards ceremony for the participants and prizes for the winners, who proudly received the medals that accredited their skill in the world of virtual programming.

The final atmosphere was very emotional: as spectators, illuminated faces, laughter, and shared congratulations reflected that everyone was deeply happy about this new learning.

These students not only brought with them awards and recognition, but also a new experience filled with a lot of learning in STEM areas.

Thank you to our donors for putting all their hearts into each of these projects to bring new forms of hands-on learning to schools.
